The Future Homes Standard is finally here

The Future Homes Standard has officially landed

From 2028, every new home in England will need:
Air Source Heat Pumps and Solar as standard

This is a massive shift, t’s been a long time coming

We’re moving away from gas and towards fully electric homes. Not just for carbon savings, but because it now makes financial sense

And a big driver behind this…

The volatility of oil and gas

We’ve seen it over the last few years, prices spiking, bills unpredictable, and very little control for homeowners. That uncertainty with oil and gas isn’t going anywhere

Electric homes, paired with solar and batteries, change that

You generate your own energy
You store it
You rely less on global fuel markets

With the Future Homes Standard, you’re already about 75% of the way there. Add a bit more solar and a battery, and you’re not far off homes with virtually no energy bills

That’s a huge selling point for:
– Developers
– Housing associations
– Build-to-rent

And the economics have changed massively over the last decade:
– Solar costs down 80%
– Efficiency nearly doubled
– Batteries becoming more viable

We’re now at a point where, on a typical home, the extra cost to push towards that level can be surprisingly low

There’s another big impact of the Future Homes Standard…

Retrofitting existing homes

Once every new home is built with heat pumps and solar as standard, it stops being “new” or “different”

It becomes normal

That shift in mindset is huge

Homeowners will see it working
Installers will become more experienced
Supply chains will scale
Confidence will grow

And suddenly, retrofitting existing homes doesn’t feel like a risk, it feels like the obvious next step

The opportunity here isn’t just compliance

It’s building better homes:
– Cheaper to run
– Lower carbon
– Protected from volatile energy markets
– Future-proofed

This is exactly where things are heading and why I’m so focused on heat pumps, solar and smart energy through VAYU

The future isn’t coming

It’s already being built
